IBHO BioResource residency at new Black Health Clinic in North London

Starting in early June, representatives from the Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) BioResource will visit the Black Cultural Centre in Islington during a 12-week takeover of the centre by local social enterprise Go Africa Community Hub. The clinic aims to provide a new dedicated space for culturally competent healthcare services and advice to local communities. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about the role of research in addressing health inequalities and how the IBHO BioResource and those who take part can drive change.

Black Cultural Centre, Islington, London

The Black Health Clinic will run every Monday at the Black Cultural Centre in Islington, offering full-day and evening sessions with trusted facilitators and health professionals - including IBHO BioResource research teams from several London hospitals - leading 2–3 clinic slots during June, July, and August. In addition, family-focused activities will be hosted on Saturdays, creating further opportunities for community outreach and engagement.

The IBHO BioResource recruits new research volunteers via a network of more than 50 hospital and GP sites across England. To date, we have over 2,500 IBHO volunteers signed up to participate in health research. Colleagues from two of those hospitals  - Whittington and University College London (UCL) will attend in June and July respectively, ready to answer questions and arrange appointments for anyone interested to take part.

Anna Njie, Director of Go Africa, said:

"We look forward to driving positive change across the African-Caribbean community in Islington through our residency at the Black Cultural Centre by addressing health disparities and community needs.

"Our goal throughout our residency is to build a more prosperous and connected local community through our health and creative programmes, including talks – creating opportunities for small businesses and ultimately meeting the wider needs of the community."

Attending the Black Health Clinic in Islington is one of many examples of the IBHO BioResource heading into the community to bring research to the public, in trusted and safe spaces.
