Summary

Understanding emotions is a very important ability in society. Some people with mental health issues struggle with their social skills, but we are not exactly sure what happens. Schizophrenia and depression are two mental health conditions that may have an impact on emotion processing. Hence, we want to figure out what makes schizophrenia different from depression in terms of how individuals handle their emotion and interact with other people.

In this study, we will include patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and people who do not have diagnosis of either condition. We will assess thinking and social skills using interviews and questionnaires.

Participants will attend two appointments at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience, King's College London. The first visit will last between 1-2 hours, and the second will last around 3 hours with breaks and lunch.

The aim is that this research will improve our understanding of how schizophrenia and depression impact social interaction, and most importantly, to help with developing more effective treatments and improve quality of life for all patients.
